(NewsDakota.com)- Morgan Klose’s three-point basket with 22 seconds left gave Minot State the final lead in what was otherwise a back and forth contest. The Beavers escaped their season opener with a 58-55 win over the Jimmies.

Minot State, playing in full NCAA DII for the first time, opened up a 14-2 lead to start the game and it looked like a repeat of the Beavers blowout 2011 win over Jamestown College.

The Jimmies had just two points at the 10:03 mark of the first half, going nearly 10 minutes with only one basket. Hannah Steele put in a free throw to make it 14-3 and then JC was off and running. They would score 20 of the next 24 and take a 25-21 lead into half.

Maggie Seter’s nine first-half points came on a trio of three-pointers.

Jamestown College opened up a 12-point lead in the second half, but Minot State quickly closed the gap. Down the stretch neither team held more than a three point lead.

With Bridget Schuneman sidelined with an ankle injury and Amber Ramlo and Megan Pold fouled out, Coach Greg Ulland went with freshman Jessica Buck in the final minutes. After Buck intercepted a pass, she was fouled and made one of two from the line to make it a two point Jimmie lead.

On the ensuing possession, Klose buried her three for the final lead of the game. JC had a chance but Steele was unable to get a quality shot at the hoop.

It was an exhibition game for the Jimmies so it doesn’t count in the standings. They will be back in action on Saturday in St. Cloud, MN to take on St. Cloud State.
