JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A major breakdown in the treatment of Jamestown water has caused some headaches for the Water Treatment Plant.
Water Superintendent Joe Rowell says through the process of clarifying and lime softening treatment, they’ve experienced the breakdown of their filter presses.
Both of their presses have experienced major breakdowns and are inoperable.
Rowell says replacement parts alone per press are more than $134,000 a piece and don’t include labor or shipping. Right now, he says they’re using three lagoons as they reroute the lime byproduct, where capacity could become an issue.
New presses would also run about $225,000 a piece. Rowell says he’s comparing costs and weighing his options for part replacement.
No decisions were made. Further discussion and a decision could be made at the next Public Works meeting later this month.
