(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes City Council held their regular monthly meeting last week.
In the engineer’s report, Phase 3 of citywide construction is finished, and the Council voted to withhold final payment until seeding areas are addressed. Phase 4 paving is schedule to begin shortly, and seeding along with replacing sprinklers will be completed in the spring.
The City has been denied funding for a 2011 Hazard Mitigation Grant due to Dickey County not having a completed and approved Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.
A recommendation was made that the water treatment plant does not need a new filter at the present time. The Council approved $3,500 to Moore Engineering for technical assistance on filter replacement.
There was also two first readings; the first, for a sales tax request by the Oakes Park and Rec department for $5,000 for new playground equipment at Williow Park. The second was a Public Consumption Of Alcohol Ordinance which would prohibit the sale and consumption of alcohol upon any public right of way, street, alley, highway, or public sidewalk within the city with a $50 fine for a violation.
In other news, soil testing is being done on potential new landfill sites, and more information will be given once testing is complete.
