VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The first “Peggy Lee Day” is this Friday in Valley City. The day honors her legacy and contribution to the music industry spanning more than 70 years.
On Friday, June 17th at 7pm Myron Sommerfeld will be playing Peggy Lee music in the new VCSU Center for the Fine Arts.
The event is free and open to the public, but Sommerfeld is asking the public to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Barnes County Food Pantry.
Remember, “Pink” ice cream (Peggy’s favorite color) and coffee by Alley Beans will be served in the lobby of the new VCSU Center for the Fine Arts after the Myron Sommerfeld show.
The Peggy Lee mural on the north wall of the historic Rudolf Hotel in Valley City has been completed by artist Bill Cochran of Bridgetown Imprints. Cochran was hired by the Bridges Arts Council to paint the mural honoring Peggy Lee, the hotel is the former site of KOVC Radio where she began her professional singing career back in 1936.
