VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City legion baseball club had an audible called on them on Tuesday. What was supposed to be a home doubleheader for Valley City, things got switched around and they then had to travel to take on the West Fargo Aces. Credit goes to Valley City as they didn’t let the sudden change in ball parks deter them from getting the job done as they sweep both games against West Fargo on the road. Valley City winning Game 1, 9-6, and then getting the shut out win in Game 2, 2-0.

Game 1 – Valley City 9 West Fargo 6:

Gavin Gerhardt would provide a pair of hits in the first game for VC. Gerhardt would also drive in 4 runs, and Adam Bitz would drive in 3 runs in the win. Braxton Jorissen went 6 innings on the mound and would strike out 5.

Game 2 – Valley City 2 West Fargo 0:

Valley City scored a run in the top of the 6th and 7th innings on their way to the 2-0 win. Gavin Gerhardt and Devyn Thornton would provide the RBI’s for VC. Adam Bitz would have a pair of hits in the win. On the mound, Max Mehus and Adam Bitz would combine for the complete game shut out. Mehus would go 5 2/3 innings, striking out 4, and Bitz went 1 1/3 while striking out 1.

Coach Chase Carpenter’s thoughts after the sweep, “West Fargo is always a tough team to beat, so it feels good coming away with two wins on the road. We’re not even close to playing our best baseball right now, but we are finding ways to win games.”

With the pair of wins, Valley City pushes their record to 7-3 on the legion season. They will return to game action on Thursday when they will host Casselton Post 15 at Charlie Brown Field in Valley City. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00PM, and you can hear the call of the game on am1490/96.3FM (KOVC), streamed online at newsDakota.com, and on the KOVC app.
