ST. PAUL, MN. (USACE) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), St. Paul District employee, Rich Schueneman, from Valley City, North Dakota, is one of four Civil Servant of the Year award recipients. The St. Paul District presents this annual award to the top three or four of its 700 employees. Schueneman, a 30-year Corps of Engineers employee, serves as the North Dakota flood control project section supervisor.
Selected for the Leadership Award, Schueneman skillfully manages numerous unique and challenging recreation, environmental stewardship, and flood risk management projects, as well as his personal commitment to volunteer activities in the community. Schueneman provides critical support to the St. Paul District flood response mission by engaging with local stakeholders to prepare for and fight floods that threaten the communities.
“Rich was nominated in recognition of his outstanding service to the Corps of Engineers, its customers and his community,” said Randy Urich, St. Paul District operations program manager, and Schueneman’s supervisor. “His long-standing expertise, creativity, unwavering dedication, behind-the-scenes contributions and trustworthy service have resulted in a level of success across the board that exceeds expectations, all while maintaining his volunteer work in the community.”
Schueneman received the award at the 45th Annual Minnesota Federal Civil Servant of the Year awards banquet in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, May 3. The St. Paul District office employs about 700 people in 41 field sites in five states, and has headquarters in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. The Corps of Engineers serves the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response.
