Clifford Lloyd Wegner, 84 of Surprise, AZ passed away peacefully at his home on April 26, 2022 surrounded by his wife and family. He was born on February 20, 1938 to Gottfried and Bertha (Suko) Wegner, Jr. on the family farm in Cusator Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota.
Cliff married Shirley Baumgartner in March of 1966 and they started their life on the farm. Daughters Marci and Paula soon joined the family.
Cliff married Cheryl Blackmore in 1985 and added 3 more children to his family. During their 25 years together, they traveled from coast to coast and had a multitude of adventures. From the stories told, they made it to all but two states.
In 2012, he married Stella Wheeler and they enjoyed 10 wonderful years in Arizona.
Cliff farmed his entire life which started by picking up rocks while following his mother around their farm. He loved to tell stories from his days growing up on the farm in ND. He was a hard-working farmer for over 60 years when he retired and moved to Arizona. Farming skills followed him to Arizona where wheat and sunflowers became desert plants and citrus trees, which made his yard envied by many. He made lifetime friends wherever he went. He found a love of making beautiful stained glass and diamond artwork. His artwork will be one of his everlasting legacies. Who knew this old farmer was so talented? Putter golf was also one of his loves and a proud moment was the day he made 5 holes-in-one and got his name on a plaque. He had so many talents and taught all of us so many things from how to change a tire, drive a stick shift, pack a vehicle, or drive a straight row on the tractor. He had the patience of a saint!
Clifford is survived by his wife Stella Wegner; children, Marci Opsahl, Paula (Robbie) Vaughn, Cristen Blackmore, Teresa (Randy) Eisenzimmer, and Thomas Blackmore; grandchildren Andrew Wegner, Brian Opsahl, Jade Eisenzimmer, Delaney Vaughn, Colton and Aubrey Blackmore; great grandchild Kenadee Wegner. Survivors include his brother, Elroy (Edress) Wegner, brother-in-law, Bob Johnson, sisters-in-law, Mary (Richard) Curtis and Mary Birk, as well as many nephews and nieces, Stella’s children, Larry (Angela) Wheeler, Joanne (Bryan) Windjue, Joyce Nopwaskey, and Jan (Jason) Naslund, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cheryl, his siblings: Melvin Wegner, Mae Williams, Lorene Wanzek, and David Wegner.
He was truly the best father, grandpa, husband, uncle, and friend that anyone could have. He made an impact on the lives of so many with his infectious smile, kind heart and easy-going personality. We have so many great memories of this wonderful man who will be forever in our hearts.
