MANDAN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A five-run fifth inning blow the floodgates open for the Jamestown High School baseball team Saturday afternoon as the #5 Blue Jays took down #2 Bismarck Legacy 8-0 to head to the state tournament.

Jamestown jumped in front during the second inning after Payton Hochhalter began the frame with a single. Then, Carson Orr doubled and Reagan Sortland picked up a single to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 advantage on Legacy.

The score remained 2-0 until the fifth when Jamestown hit around and put up five runs. Gage Orr started the inning with a single, and Sortland ended up driving in another to cap off the five-run fifth. Connor Hoyt drove in one with a double, Jackson Walters had an RBI off a double, and Carson Orr singled to bring home two and put Legacy away for good.

Hochhalter earned the win on the bump for the Jays, going 4.2 innings and allowing just two hits. Thomas Newman shut the door in relief for Jamestown, pitching the final 2.1 innings while giving up one hit. Legacy was held scoreless for the first time all season in the loss.

The Blue Jays now head to the state tournament for Class A baseball as the #4 seed in the West Region. Jamestown will take on the #1 seed out of the East which is still TBD.
