MANDAN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A four-run first inning provided the spark the Jamestown High School baseball team needed on Friday afternoon as the Blue Jays kept their season alive with a 6-2 win over St. Mary’s.

Jamestown got to Saints starter Tommy Kraljic right out of the gate with the first six batters he faced reaching base for the Jays. Connor Hoyt drove in courtesy runner Tyson Jorrison in order for the Blue Jays to get on the board in the first. After a Jackson Walters single, Payton Hochhalter drove in both Walters and Hoyt to make it 3-0. The Saints were forced to change pitchers to just six batters into the game as Jamestown jumped in front 4-0.

Mason Lunzman made his return for the Blue Jays and made an immediate impact. Playing for the first time in nearly a month, Lunzman tossed six innings, allowing just four hits and two runs, both of which were unearned. The junior lefty also struck out seven Saint batters in the win.

Jamestown turned to the bullpen in the seventh and freshman Thomas Newman shut the door to keep the season alive for the Blue Jays. With the victory, the Jays will now move to a state-qualifying game on Saturday at 12 PM. Jamestown will face the loser of the Minot/Legacy game at 6:30 PM on Friday.
