CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The transition of moving city Public Service Answering Point dispatchers back to Barnes County control seems to be on a rocky road.
City Administrator David Schelkoph says the city has a number of questions on exactly how the transition will work and what the roll of city police department will be once the take over is completed.

Schelkoph asked the county if the January first deadline could be push back to make the transition smoother. Barnes County Commissioner Eldred Knutson says employee salary, benefits and vacation agreements will have to be workout but the cost of the transition should not be cost prohibitive.

Barnes County Commissioner John Froelich believes the transition will cost the county up to $100,000 more per year. Paul Diegal said the city and county should get together to work on the transition bi-weekly or more between now and January 1.

States Attorney Lee Grossman agreed that if both entities aren’t ready by January 1 the transition should be pushed back. Commissioner Eldred Knutson says questions about the transition should be submitted to him so they can be worked out well before the Jan. 1 deadline.
