service for Johnnie Schnieder, 93, of Ashley will be 11:00 am, Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley.  The Rev. Sharon Korsmo will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Ashley. 

Visitation will be Tuesday from noon-5 pm at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Aberdeen, SD.  On Wednesday visitation will be from 3-7 pm at Carlsen Funeral Home in Ashley with a prayer service at 7 pm.   

Johnnie died November 2, 2012 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.   

Johnnie Schnieder, son of Frederick and Christina (Schlenz) Schnieder was born May 15, 1919 on the family homestead 16 miles east of Ashley in Beresina Township in McIntosh County, ND.  He started country school and when he was ten years old his family moved into Ashley.  When he was 17 years old he returned to the homestead.

Johnnie was united in marriage to Christina “Teena” Meidinger on October 14, 1940 in Zion I Lutheran Church near Ashley.  They farmed his homestead raising small grains and cattle.  Teena died March 28, 1990.  Johnnie continued to live on the farm and retired in 2007.  In March of 2009, he entered Mother Joseph Manor. 

Johnnie enjoyed farming, playing pool, playing cards and spending time with his family whenever possible.  When he was younger, he did a lot of fishing.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Coldwater Wildlife Club, Ashley Lions and a founding member of Ashley Pool League.

Johnnie is survived by two sons, Kenneth Schnieder of Ypsilanti, ND and Neal (Hope) Schnieder of Ashley; four daughters, Betty Lou (Laurence) Rall of Forbes, ND, Ramona Ketterling of Aberdeen, Sheila (Bill) Heim of Bismarck and Sharon Moen of Fargo; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  

His parents, wife, two brothers and seven sisters preceded him in death

Honorary Casketbearers will be Johnnie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be Arnie Isaak, Rodney Meidinger, Tony Schneider, Jeff Bertsch, Calvin Rothfusz and Joe Fregien.

The organist will be Steve Glaesmann
