VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners baseball club was looking to get back into the win column on Monday. Hi-Liners were hosting the West Fargo Packers, and it was the road team who would score first and pick up the win 8-3 over Valley City.

West Fargo wasted no time in putting up runs. The Packers would get 3 runs in the top half of the first inning. West Fargo’s leadoff batter Mason Stolting would drop in a hit into shallow left field and would show his aggressiveness on the bases and he gambled and slid into second base to get the game started with a double. With 2 on and no one out, the number three hitter for the Packers would drop a surprise bunt and leg out a single to load the bases. Back to back RBI singles would give WF the 2-0 lead. 5 consecutive hits to lead off the ball game would result in a 3-0 Packer lead. Hi-Liners would go quietly in the top of the 1st. West Fargo would tack on another pair of runs in the top of the 2nd to lead 5-0. The Hi-Liner offense would get going in the bottom of the second inning when Broden Muske would bring in Joe Cummings with an RBI double. Valley City would put up 2 runs in the bottom of the third to close the gap. Back to back RBI singles from Gavin Gerhardt and Braxton Jorissen would make it a 5-3 Packer lead. The game would remain that way until Wes Fargo would score another run in the top of the 6th to go up 6-3. The Packers would add on more insurance in the top of the 7th inning thanks to RBI singles from their #9 and #1 hitters.

For the pitchers, West Fargo started right hander Brady Medina. The righty went 3 innings, giving up 6 hits, 3 runs while striking out 2. Tanner Larson, another right hander would come on in relief in the 4th inning. Larson would go 4 innings, giving up 0 hits, 0 runs while striking out 2. For the Hi-Liners, Devyn Thornton got the start. The lefty went 1 inning, giving up 5 hits, and 3 runs. Despite the box score Thornton did a solid job of pounding the strike zone, the Packers just hit the balls in all of the gaps. Valley City got an excellent relief performance from Braxton Jorissen. The right hander would go 5 1/3 innings giving up 7 hits, 5 runs, while striking out 6. Robert Fischer would come in in the top of the 7th and work 2/3 of an inning allowing just a hit.

Next up for the Hi-Liners, they will be on the road on Thursday to take on the Fargo Davies Eagles.
