Parker Schmidt with “The Hoop Hamper”

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Marketplace for Kids was held Tuesday, May 10th in Jamestown.

The original event first began 26 years ago, but has since grown to be hosted at multiple sites across North Dakota. Executive Director Bob Heitkamp says they had nearly 600 students in grades 3-8 signed up to participate.

Students heard from various speakers, joined different sessions, and others event presented an entrepreneurial idea to other students, educators, and members of the public.

Parker Schmidt, a 5th grader from Roosevelt Elementary School, presented his idea “The Basketball Hamper Hoop.”

Maple Valley Students Avery Kohler and Kennedy Salberg teamed up to create the “On the Go Box”.

Avery says they both got inspiration from the “Babysitter Club” books.

Kennedy added this was for those on-the-go kids who wanted to bring things to do with them, with an emphasis on non-electronic activity.

Hannah Besette and Sophia Satrom are also from Maple Valley Public School. They created the “Wobbly Washer” as an entertainment piece for kids and adults alike.

Hannah described the process they went through to create the unique toy.

Sophia added they would hope their invention could cure classic boredom.

Marketplace for Kids was held on Tuesday, May 10th at the Harold Newman Arena.
