Donald Duane Dahl, 84, of Valley City, ND passed away March 25, 2022 with family at his side.

Born in Elgin ND on July 21, 1937, Donald was the youngest son of Arthur and Katie (Ketterling) Dahl. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1955. After high school, Donald served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1957.

Donald married Marcella Zacher of Elgin in 1961 and they raised 3 daughters. He spent most of his working years as an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed all the people he met along the way and loved seeing the beautiful sites this wonderful country has to offer. In retirement, he loved to fish and hunt. His favorite fishing trips were to Lake Sakakawea with his grandchildren and fishing buddy, Don Winings. He spent many hours teaching his family how to play cribbage and holidays always had a cribbage tournament to see which grandchild could beat gramps.

Donald will always be remembered for his endless jokes and quick wit. He had a real gift to make everyone laugh.

Donald is survived by his brother, Eldon (Doris) Dahl of Huron SD; his daughters Melissa (Luke) Wall of St. Petersburg FL and Paige Plecity of Hickson, ND; grandsons, Jacob Wall, Devon Brademeyer, and Zachary Plecity; granddaughters, Emilie Plecity and Rachel Wall.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Katie Dahl and his daughter, Beth Dahl.

The family would appreciate expressions of love and sympathy be made in the form of a donation to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 10:30am at Lerud-Mathias Funeral Home in Valley City. Following the service, there will be a celebration of life gathering at Jimmy’s Pizza in Valley City.

Internment will be on Monday June 6 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
