VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Valley City is fighting a flood. The clay levees are completed, and contingency plans are in place for the rainbow and hospital bridges if needed.
The Sheyenne River in Valley City is forecast to crest at 18.5 feet later this week.
US Army Corps of Engineers Baldhill dam resource manager Rich Schueneman said outflows out of the dam were bumped up to 4,200 cfs on Tuesday.
He said erosion near the mill dam has been repaired.
Barnes County Emergency manager Sue Lloyd said a notification plan is in place for county residents, if or when the two bridges south of Valley City are closed due to high water levels.
Valley City Police Chief Phil Hatcher said those who are caught on clay levees in Valley City are subject to a $500 fine.
