MITCHELL, S.D.– The University of Jamestown baseball team’s offense was on display Saturday afternoon against Midland (Neb.) University, scoring 29 runs on 31 hits in 11-1 and 18-8 wins in GPAC action.

Saturday’s games were originally scheduled to be played April 24 in Jamestown, but were rescheduled for Saturday in Redfield, S.D. The weather forecast called for rain in Redfield so the games were moved to Mitchell, S.D.

Jamestown batted a combined .470 (31-for-66) against the Warriors, including nine doubles, three triples, and four home runs.

Quade Peters (FR/West Fargo, ND), Ryan Muizelaar (FR/Grand Forks, ND), Xander Orejudos (JR/Ellensburg, WA), Tayler Cullen (SR/Santa Rosa, Calif.), and Triston Madison (FR/Spokane, WA) all had four hits on the day, while Isaiah Roebuck (FR/Marana, AZ) finished with three, all doubles. Cullen smashed a pair of home runs and drove in six runs, and Orejudos and Muizelaar also hit homers.

The Jimmies started off with a bang in game one, scoring seven times in the bottom of the first, and built a 10-0 lead after four innings. The lone Midland run came in the top of the fifth, but UJ countered that run with one of their own in the bottom of the fifth.

Tanner Boe (SO/Mountlake Terrace, WA) started and struck out four in 3 2/3 innings while giving up only one hit. Logan O’Neil (SO/Bremerton, WA), Ethan Krupp (SO/Corvallis, OR), and Noah Soltero (SR/North Las Vegas, NV), the final three Jimmie relievers, held the Warriors off the board for the final 2 1/3 innings.

Runs came early and often in game two, with Midland scoring twice in their first at-bat, only to have Jamestown put up a six-spot in their first turn at the plate. UJ led 9-3 after two and the Warriors kept up the pressure with three in the third and another in the fourth.

A four-run fifth gave the Jimmies some breathing room at 14-8, then another four in the sixth pushed the lead to 10.

The 20 hits by Jamestown were a season high, and the 18 runs were the most since they tallied 19 against Mount Marty on March 26.

Seven Jimmie pitchers saw action in game two, with none throwing more than 30 pitches. Kendall Yackley (JR/Lynnwood, WA) (2-4), the third UJ pitcher, worked 1 2/3 innings for the win.

Jamestown is back in action on Wednesday when they host Dickinson State (N.D.) in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
