ABERDEEN, S.D. – VCSU freshman Kendra Odegard won the women’s javelin and the Valley City State track and field team had 10 Top 5 finishes this weekend during the Dewey Donat Classic in Aberdeen, S.D.
Odegard won the javelin completion for the fourth straight meet, recording a top mark of 36.98 meters (121-4) to best a field of 14 throwers on Saturday. If was VCSU’s only event title, but was one of 10 Top 5 finishes recorded by VCSU athletes as teams battled extremely windy conditions throughout the meet.
Brooke Malsom jumped a career-best 5.58 meters (18-3.75) to place second in the women’s long jump. Clay Kummer placed second in both of the men’s hurdles races, and Bryce Nelson was second in the 5000 meters.
Up next: Valley City State is scheduled to host the Viking Twilight Meet on Wednesday, April 27. Field events are scheduled to start at 3 p.m. It will be VCSU’s first home meet since the 2014 season.
