JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Fire Department and Police Department provided an update on their respective operations within the city Thursday evening.

Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther reports it’s been a busy spring for many agencies in the city.

Calls remain at “status quo” for the department, but the first part of the year was busy according to Chief Reuther.

Officials are also continuing to conduct inspections at area businesses. Reuther says he has some staff taking courses to keep up with inspections, which has been a struggle with the COVID pandemic.

He added they are also starting to transition to warmer weather operations for the department.

Assistant Police Chief Major Justin Blinsky reported on the latest with the Jamestown Police Department. He says they recently had an officer complete training to become a Drug Recognition Expert, or DRE.

Blinsky says there are only 55 DRE’s in the state and are glad to have two stationed in their department.

The JPD is also participating in two traffic safety enforcements.

Major Blinsky says in 2019, about 26% of fatality accidents had speed involved. This makes their speed enforcement important as it runs through May 20th.

Another item officers are doing is issuing “junk” violations.
