VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUAthletics.com) – The Valley City State University football team will open the 2022 season with back-to-back Thursday night games, the program has announced.
VCSU Football officially released its 2022 schedule on Wednesday, which includes the season opener at rival University of Jamestown. That game will be played Thursday, Aug. 25 with a 7 p.m. kickoff in Jamestown. The following week, VCSU’s home opener is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1 against Concordia College-Moorhead.
“We’re excited to start off the 2022 season with two really good non-conference games,” said VCSU head coach Dennis McCulloch. “Facing a pair of quality, local opponents under the lights should create a great atmosphere for our team and fans.”
Valley City State’s 2022 schedule consists of eight conference games and the two non-conference games to start the season. VCSU’s first North Star Athletic Association conference contest is the Homecoming game on Sept. 17 against Dickinson State. The Vikings will also host Dakota State (Oct. 8), Iowa Wesleyan University (Oct. 15) and Presentation College (Nov. 5).
VCSU’s conference road games include dates at Presentation College (Sept. 24), Waldorf University (Oct. 22), Dickinson State (Oct. 29) and Mayville State (Nov. 12).
The Vikings finished second in the NSAA standings in 2021, recording an 8-2 overall record and a 6-2 mark in conference play.
NOTES
– The season opener at Jamestown will be the 123rd meeting between the VCSU and Jamestown football programs and the 75th meeting in the Paint Bucket series. The Vikings currently lead the all-time series 64-53-5, and also lead the Paint Bucket series 43-31. VCSU has won 10 of the last 11 meetings with Jamestown.
– Valley City State played at Concordia last season, defeating the Cobbers on a last-second field goal. It was the first game between the two programs since 2010. VCSU last hosted Concordia in 2009.
– The VCSU Homecoming game is Sept. 17 against Dickinson State. Kickoff will be at 3 p.m.
