AMES, IOWA (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State seniors Jayden Ewoniuk and Jocelyn Braunberger each finished in the Top 20 at the Jimmie Spring Invite played Monday and Tuesday at the par-71 Ames Golf and Country Club.
Jayden Ewoniuk led the Vikings in the spring opener after carding a two-day total of 162 (85-77) and moved up 14 spots to tie for 16th place in the tournament. Ewoniuk was one of five golfers who fired a 77 on Tuesday and carded the second-best score on the day. He was just one shot off Eric Stevens of Hastings College who shot a 76 on Tuesday.
Rory Gentzkow finished in a tie for 26th with a score of 167 (81-86) and Alex Klever finished in 36th place with a 190 (96-94). Freshman Parker Heydt added a 220 (103-117) to VCSU’s team score and finished in 39th place. Henrik Jacobsen carded a 241 (128-113) and placed 40th. The Viking men finished with a two-day 735 (365-370) team score and placed seventh out of seven teams competing at the tournament.
Tournament-host University of Jamestown took the team title after a two-day total 613 (302-311). UJ’s Tate Olson also earned medalist honors after carding a 147 (70-77) in the tournament.

Senior Jocelyn Braunberger moved up 13 spots on day two to finish in 14th place with a 183 (95-88) in the field of 52 women’s golfers. Hayley Shanks carded a 189 (94-95) and finished in a tie for 27th place while Nevaeh Davis placed 39th after a two-day 198 (95-103). Ashley McKittrick shot a 207 (110-97) and tied for 45th, while Sydney Staus added a 217 (108-109) and finished in 49th place.
As a team, the Viking women finished in ninth place out of nine teams and carded a 775 (392-383) for the tournament.
University of Sioux Falls won the tournament with a 692 (336-356) tournament score. The Cougars’ Paige Hillman won medalist honors with a two-day 159 (75-84).
UP NEXT: VCSU travels to Rapid City, S.D. to compete in the Hardrocker Invite on April 4-5.
