Austin Perleberg Hunt, Stutsman County Correctional Center

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – More details and names have been released in a Monday, March 21st pursuit in Stutsman County that ended in a suspect being hospitalized for severe hypothermia.

A pursuit was initiated on I-94 when a vehicle was reportedly traveling 98 in a 75 mph zone. The vehicle was also reported stolen out of Fargo. The pursuit ended in rural Stutsman County when the vehicle entered a ditch and the suspect fled on foot.

North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind said the rescue of a suspect who fled a high-speed chase was a “life or death situation.” He was spotted, hiding in a slough some distance away.

Niewind said if the man had not been found within another half-hour or less the search would have turned into a recovery effort because he had severe hypothermia.

22 year-old Austin Perleberg Hunt of Jamestown was charged with felony fleeing, reckless endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing stolen property. He was charged with misdemeanor driving under suspension and resisting arrest.

Perleberg Hunt had warrants for his arrest at the time of the pursuit from Burleigh, Eddy and Stutsman Counties and the Jamestown PD.
