JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A pursuit Monday, March 21st in Stutsman County ended with a suspect being transported to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports that just before 7:30 PM, a trooper attempted to stop a motorist on I-94 after they were traveling 98 mph in the 75 mph zone five miles east of Jamestown.

The vehicle fled and eventually took Exit 269 and traveled north on Stutsman County Road 62 toward Spiritwood. After a brief time on a gravel township roadway, the vehicle left the road and became stuck in a slough on the west side of the road.

A 22 year-old male fled on foot, entering the slough and swam across before hiding in the slough west of 94th Avenue SE. Two adult passengers remained in the vehicle and were detained by the pursuing officer.

Deputies with the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office and additional troopers responded to the area, entered the slough and after nearly 1 1/2 hours located the suspect. He was rescued by several officers and was severely hypothermic. Authorities carried out the suspect and placed him on an ATV to drive to a waiting ambulance. He was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center and then transferred to a hospital in Fargo.

The suspect has not been charged at this time. The incident remains under investigation and charges are pending. Names will be released when charges are filed.

The NDHP was assisted by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Police Department, Jamestown Rural Fire Department, Stutsman County Emergency Manager’s Office, and Jamestown Area Ambulance.

A private citizens ATV was used to assist in the rescue.
