VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUAthletics.com) – The Valley City State softball team defeated Dickinson College on Sunday after erasing an early 3-0 deficit en route to the 10-6 win.

Dickinson College opened with a three-run first inning Sunday, but the Vikings answered with six runs in the top of the second, including a pair of two-run doubles from Joelle Aiello and Saige Forseth, to take over a 6-3 advantage they would hold the rest of the way.

VCSU improves to 11-8 on the season and Dickinson College drops to 1-1 overall. The Vikings have a break on Monday before playing a pair of games on Tuesday. VCSU rematches Dickinson College at 2:15 p.m. and then faces Hastings College at 4:30 p.m. CDT in Tucson.

The Vikings were led by Jessica Husband who went 2-for-3 at the plate, drew two walks and scored three runs. Saige Forseth went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Anne-Elise Gest and Andrea Rodriguez each swiped the plate twice while Aiello drove in three runs for VCSU.

Aiello started in the pitcher’s circle for VCSU and allowed three runs on three hits over 2/3 of an inning. Joelle Lamontagne took the win Sunday after 6 1/3 innings of work. She allowed three runs on nine hits, striking out five and walking one.

Natalie Krzywiec got the loss for Dickinson College. She went 1 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and six runs. Dickinson College collected 12 hits on the day led by Paige Hahn who went 3-for-3, scored one run and drove in five.
