WEST FARGO, ND. (Bonanzaville) – Bonanzaville is hosting an artist talk for the second artist featured in the Art in the Valley: Artist Showcase exhibit.

On March 12th from 1pm to 3pm, an artist talk and closing reception will be held for wet-plate photographer Kary Janousek. During the talk, Kary will discuss how she gained interest in wet-plate photography, her inspirations, and a Bonanzaville-exclusive series titled ‘Feminity.’

After sitting for a portrait at Nostalgic Glass in Bismarck ND in the Spring of 2019, Kary Janousek decided to learn how to make images using this unique antique process for herself. Her first successful Ambrotype photograph using wet plate collodion was taken September 2019 after shadowing artist Shane Balkowitsch in his studio. She opened her own natural light studio in the Dakota Business College building located in downtown Fargo July 2021. Here she books private sittings and hosts walk-in portrait days once a month, as well as creating art images.

As a self-taught milliner, Janousek has been repairing and restoring vintage and antique hats for her online business for 9 years. She has lived in the Fargo/Moorhead community since 2004 with her husband John Janousek.
