VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The VC Vipers squirts finished their season strong by going 3-1 this past weekend with their only loss coming in a tight 1-2 contest.

Penalties would hurt the Vipers Saturday morning as they would fall behind Fargo Freeze Navy 0-1 after giving up a 3 on 5 powerplay goal.  Fargo would make it 0-2 midway through the second period. Brody Kalbrener would get one early in the third period but that would be all the offense could produce and they’d fall 1-2.  Goalie Tyler Olsen would finish with 20 saves.

Saturday afternoon the Vipers would be in another tight battle as regulation would end 2-2 against Fargo Freeze White.  Kalbrener would score first for the Vipers (assist Riley Roelfsema and Gavin Wiebe) and Roelfsema would score the second (assist Gray Kasowski).  Their 2-0 lead going into the third would vanish as Fargo scored two in the third to tie it up.  After a scoreless five-minute overtime, Colton Gerlach, Kalbrener and Roelfsema would all score in the shootout.  Kasowski would be denied, but Olsen would turn away 3 of 4 shootout attempts by Fargo for the 3-2 victory.  Olsen finished with 29 saves.

Sunday would be all Vipers in Bismarck as they’d cruise to 6-0 and 7-1 victories against Bismarck Capitals Red and Bismarck Capitals white.  Providing the offense for the day was Kalbrener (4 goals, 2 assists); G. Kasowski (2 goals, 2 assists); Gerlach (2 goals, 1 assist); Corbin Petersen (2 goals); Riggs Kasowski, playing his first two squirt games (2 assists); Wiebe (1 goal); Kayson Ziemba (1 goal); Kaleb Hayes (1 goal) and Teagan Klevgaard (1 assist).   Olsen would record his second shutout of the season and finish with 17 and 15 saves respectively.
