FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners boys basketball team had to travel to the Spartandome for their play-in basketball game on Saturday. The Hi-Liners were taking on a Spartan team that had defeated them both times in the regular season. Valley City was hanging around on the scoreboard for most of the first half until back to back 3-pointers from Fargo North’s Gabe Sagvold stunned the Hi-Liners. Fargo North wins the game to end the Hi-Liners season in the play-in game, 98-58.
First half saw the Hi-Liners come out and play a physical brand of basketball against the Spartans, like they have both times this season. Fargo North did a great job of forcing Valley City to take tough shots. Credit the Hi-Liners as they refused to back down. Adam Bitz would continue to try and drive in the paint to chip away at the early Spartan lead. The Hi-Liners would get a 3-pointer just before the break from Reis Kriewald to trail 40-23 at the half.
Second half was a different story. The Spartans came out hitting multiple three’s from Matthew Sem, Carson Hannestad, and Luke Loberg. The home team upped their game in the second half and completely took any hope away from Valley City. Mason Kinsella would rack up points in the paint as well as Carter Zeller to put the game away and have the Spartans move on. Fargo North wins and moves on in the playoffs 98-58.
With about 14.8 seconds left in their season, Hi-Liners coach Alex Quist would take out his 3 seniors for one last ovation from the Hi-Liner crowd. The three seniors are Tucker Orner, Andrew Bernston, and Adam Bitz.
