JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The UJ men’s and women’s basketball teams suffered losses to Dordt University as both teams get ready for the GPAC postseason tournament.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: DORDT 77, JAMESTOWN 73 (OT)
The Jimmie women played tough with Dordt throughout the entire game, but the Defenders were able to pull away late to clinch the #2 seed in the GPAC tournament. Jamestown was led in scoring by senior Noelle Josephson, who put up 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss. The Jimmies had a chance to win the game at the buzzer in the fourth quarter, but the shot from Hannah DeMars came off the backboard to send the game to OT. DeMars finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. As a team, UJ went 17-19 at the free throw line, but only 36% from the floor. Jamestown will head to Dordt on Wednesday night to open up the GPAC tournament against the Defenders.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: DORDT 78, JAMESTOWN 75
The Jimmies led by as many as 14 points in the first half before Dordt bounced back to go into the half trailing by just four. In the second half, Jamestown looked flat as a team and had to rely heavily on Will Cordes, who tied his career-high with 29 points, to keep them in the game. Dordt shot 50% from the field in the win, converting on 14-17 free throws compared to the Jimmies who went 3-5 at the line. Mason Walters recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Cole Woodford finished with 10 points. Jamestown falls to the #5 overall seed in the GPAC postseason tournament, and will play at Dordt on Wednesday.
