FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners were back for day 2 of the Class A State tournament held at the FargoDome. The Hi-Liners had 4 individuals competing for state championships on this Friday.
In the first championship match, Mylee Christianson was competing for the title in the girls weight class 125. Her opponent from West Fargo would come away with the 4-0 decision to claim the championship. Christianson places 2nd in weight class 125 for girls Class A.
In the second championship match of the night Broden Muske was competing for the title for weight class 195. Unfortunately for Muske he lost his title bid to his opponent from Bismarck in a 7-3 decision. Muske places 2nd in weight class 195 in Class A.
It was Koltyn Grebel’s turn to go for a state title. Koltyn was wrestling in the weight class of 106. It only took Koltyn 1:17 inti his match to win the state championship via pinfall over his opponent from West Fargo Sheyenne. This is Koltyn’s 1st state championship, and he becomes the youngest state champion in school history.
In the final championship match up of the evening for Valley City wrestling, Koye Grebel was looking to be like his brother and bring home a state championship. Koye, wrestling for weight class 120 faced a familiar opponent from Devils Lake, whom he faced last Saturday in the EDC tournament. Unlike last week, this match was over in the second period as Koye wins the state title via a tech winning the match 16-1. For Koye, this is his 2nd state championship in three finals appearances.
This is the first time in 42 years that the Hi-Liners have 2 champions in the same season.
Valley City also had four other wrestlers place in their weight classes.
