(NewsDakota.com)- The preseason NAIA DII basketball polls were released today and some local teams made their way onto the list. The Jamestown College women landed at No. 11 and the Valley City St. men crept onto the list at No. 24. While, the Jimmie men and Viking women just missed the Top-25 and are in the receiving votes category.
Three of the teams had their season ended in the National Tournament and the Viking men were the last team out.
The No. 11 Jimmie women are coming off the most wins in school history with a 27-5 record and a loss to the eventual National Champs, Northwestern College. They will open their season on Friday at the Civic Center during the Jimmie Classic.
The Viking men who are No. 24 where knocked out in the A.I.I. Tournament and then where the last team out in the NAIA Tournament selection.
Both the Vikings and the Jimmies will travel to Iowa the first weekend in November to take on Dordt and Northwestern. When looking at the schedule, this will be the biggest road-trip on either teams schedule. The Defender men are No. 3 in the preseason ranking and the Red Raider men are No. 7.
The Red Raider women, the 3-time defending champions, are currently the No. 2 team. Northwestern beat the Jimmies in the National Tournament Sweet 16 to end the record-setting season.
The Vikings and Jimmies will renew their rivalry for the first time on January 30th at the Bubble.
