SIOUX CITY, Iowa– Mason Walters (JR/Jamestown, ND) scored 11 of his game-high 35 points in overtime as the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team won its fourth straight game, 103-95 over Morningside University Friday night.

Walters added 16 rebounds and was one of five Jimmies in double figures. Will Cordes (SO/Shakopee, MN) went 6-of-10 from three-point range on his way to 27 points, while Cole Woodford (SO/Redwood Falls, MN) added 15, Marc Kjos (JR/Lake City, MN) 13, and Devon Schultz (SR/Arlington, MN) came off the bench for a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, while blocking five shots.

Kjos sank a three-pointer with 11:59 left in the first half to put the Jimmies ahead 19-17, and despite three ties in the half, would not lead again a three by Cordes made it 33-32 with nine seconds before halftime. That lead didn’t last long, as the Mustangs would score on their final possession and go ahead 34-33 at the break.

Cordes and Walters did most of the heavy lifting for UJ in the second half, tallying 30 of the Jimmies’ 48 points. Cordes hit four threes as part of his 18 points, while Walters went four-of-six inside and 4-of-5 from the line.

The Mustangs kept a lead between three and six points for much of the second half, before a Zach Imig layup pushed the lead to eight points. Jamestown answered with a key 8-0 run to erase the deficit, then would go back in front on a Walters jumper with 2:42 to play.

Each of the next five possessions would see a lead change, then Kjos hit a huge three to make it 81-79 with 36 seconds left in regulation. The Mustangs got the game tying basket with three seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Woodford opened the extra frame with a three-pointer, followed by a three-point play by Walters. Cordes sank a pair of free throws, and Jamestown was up seven just 66 seconds in. Imig’s layup made it an 89-84 game with 3:19 left, but the Jimmies would score six of their final eight points at the free throw line to seal the win.

The Jimmies improve to 22-6 overall and 12-6 in the GPAC, and will play their final regular-season road game Saturday at Briar Cliff University beginning at 3:45 p.m.
