Boys: Shanley 88 Valley City 45
This was a tough game for Valley City as the Deacons just dominated both ends of the floor. Coach Alex Quist tried to change up his starting line up a bit on this night. He had Adam Bitz come off the bench instead of being a starter, and coach Quist saw some great results quickly as Bitz went 3-3 from beyond the arc for a quick 9-points. However, that is all Bitz would finish with on this night. The story of this game was Shanley’s 6′-5″ junior Connor Kraft. Kraft was lethal from the field. He would finish with 20-points in the win, but it was his dunks that provided energy for his team. Shanley also had three players with 12-points in the win. They were Tyler Kraft, Vuciri Hakim, and Jack Pollert. With that kind of scoring throughout a line up, it would be tough for any team to compete with that. Deacons take the road victory 88-45.
Girls: Shanley 68 Valley City 59
Hi-Liners quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead in this one, only to see the Deacons come back and score thirteen unanswered points to take a 13-6 lead. However, the Hi-Liners would mount a come back of their own and take a 26-16 lead. Brooke Eggermont was a big part of the successful first half for Valley City as she had 8 first half points. Eggermont did an excellent job of working in the paint and converting on lay ups for her team. It was the second half that was the story of this game. Hi-Liners lead at the break 28-25, but Shanley quickly came out to retake the lead. For about the next 10 minutes or so the teams would swap lead changes on the scoreboard. Eggermont once again was a major factor for Valley City as she would make big shots all night long, as she would finish the night with 23-points. Tesa Olson also deserves as mention, as she finished the game with 10-points. The Deacons were lead by Emily Srejma. The Senior for Shanley would convert on multiple tough shots all night long but she really stood out in the second half especially in the paint. Srejma would finish with a game high 28-points. With the game winding down and the score hanging in the balance, Hannah Hoedl of Shanley hit a massive 3-pointer with 1:31 left to give her team more breathing room on the scoreboard, makin git 64-53. Once that shot went in you could see the disappointment on the Hi-Liners faces. Hoedl would go on to hit two big free throws to put the game away for the Deacons, as she finished with 10-points. Shanley escapes with the win 68-59.
Next up for both Hi-Liners basketball teams, is another double header on Friday night as they welcome Grand Forks Red River to the HAC.
