LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – LaMoure never let Oakes into the game Tuesday night in their 60-39 home win.
The Loboes’ defense came to play in the first quarter giving up just five points and forcing multiple possessions to go into the single digits on the shot clock. As a result, the Tornadoes couldn’t get comfortable in their half-court offense and were unable to get any open looks. LaMoure, on the other hand, had their offense clicking and had a ten-point lead after the first period. Oakes was able to settle in a bit in the second quarter, but the damage had already been done. On top of that, the Loboes’ offense was red-hot with four long balls going in out of just seven attempts in the first half. Senior guard Charlie Bowman scored 11 first-half points and sophomore guard Max Musland scored eight with the duo combining for 6-6 shooting. LaMoure held on to a 34-20 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, both offenses were gassed as the pace of play picked up. Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the cup, but with a solid lead, the Loboes were not complaining. LaMoure ramped up their offense again in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice in the final eight minutes.
Leading the way in scoring for the Loboes was junior forward Colton Ness who finished with 18 points going 8-11 from the floor. Bowman and Musland both ended up with 11 points as well. For the Tornadoes, junior guard Xavier Vossler led the way with eight points.
With the loss, Oakes falls to 2-3 in District 5 play and 5-8 overall. LaMoure improves to 3-1 in district play and 8-2 overall. Up next for the Loboes, they are at Barnes County North this Thursday evening. As for the Tornadoes, they have a game next Tuesday, February 8th, at Carrington with a 7:00 p.m. start.
