James (Jim) Sanden, 86, of Valley City, North Dakota passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at SMP Health – St. Raphael, Valley City. His funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, February 4 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens in the spring.

James Allen Sanden was born on December 17th 1935 in Page, North Dakota, the son of George and Gertrude (Mortenson) Sanden. He attended school in Valley City and following school he joined the Air Force and served four years. Upon his discharge, he went on to trade school in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He was united in marriage to Doris Kahler June 18, 1961. Jim and Doris made their home in Valley City and raised three children. Jim worked for AT&T for 34 years. In the last 10 years of working for AT&T he was transferred out east to New York and Milford, Massachusetts. He remodeled three different homes that he and Doris lived in. He spent many hours on the landscaping of these homes. Jim was very devoted to his faith. He loved spending time with his family who he deeply loved.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris; daughters Susan (Scott) Leadbetter, Valley City and Barbara (Lonnie) Cline, Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren Jaci Heidt, Derik Holland, Josh Leadbetter, Kathry Welch, Michael Leadbetter, Jessica Enstad, James Cline, Beau Cline; eight great-grandchildren with one arriving in June; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Bill and Ida Kahler, eight siblings and his son William (Bill).

The family wishes to extend a thank you to the caregivers in the Cottage at the care center.
