JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee has recommended moving ahead with the 2022 sidewalk, curb, and gutter district project.

City Engineering Tech Tyler Michel says this is a yearly project they do for the entire city.

The motion would give the City Engineer and staff permission to prepare plans and specifications for the construction of the district along with advertising bids for the work.

The committee unanimously approved.

Later discussion was held on purchasing a new motor grader for the city Street Department. Michel informed the committee that they wanted to change how they advertise for bids with this project.

Michel says this would give the city a better bid price off the lot and allows them to speed up the process for staff and remove potential additional costs.

The previous motor grader would be sold on guarantee buy back. The committee unanimously moved to recommend the new bid process for a new motor grader for the Street Department.

A brief presentation on water main replacement projects was held at the meeting, presented by City Engineer Travis Dillman.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich says they wanted to explore how it affects the special assessment process.

The current policy sees a city share of 20% and 80% property owner share. Dillman says a possible new policy would put the city share at 70% and the property owner share at 30% on future projects.

Councilmember David Steele says it’s important to look further into issue as more and more water breaks occur in the city.

No motions were made.
