VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Vipers squirts would open the weekend with a 7-2 win over the Bismarck Capitals Blue Saturday afternoon.  Brody Kalbrener and Gray Kasowski would provide all the offense, combining for the seven goals.  Kalbrener would finish with four goals and two assists and Kasowski would finish with three goals and an assist.  Riley Roelfsema would card two assists, Beck Dietrich, Brody Metcalf and Bentley Gast would each get credited with an assist.  Goalie Tyler Olsen would finish with 23 saves.

In the second game of the Saturday double header the Fargo Angels would win the back-and-forth battle 9-6, including an empty netter.  The Vipers would be bit by penalties as the Angels scored three short-handed goals.  Olsen would finish with 31 saves and the Vipers would have a more balanced offensive attack; Kalbrener with two goals and an assist, Kayson Ziemba and Colton Gerlach with a goal and assist each, and Roelfsema and Kasowski would each finish with a goal.

Fatigue would set in Sunday morning as the Vipers would come out flat and lose a 4-2 game to Fargo Freeze Navy, 4-2.  Ziemba and Kalbrener would find the back of the net with assists from Dietrich and Roelfsema, respectively.  Olsen faced 34 shots on goal, turning away 30.

In the matinee vs. Fargo Freeze Gray a spark would put the Vipers up 3-0 as Kasowski, Gerlach and Kalbrener would score the first three goals.  Four games in 24 hours would catch up with the Vipers and they’d give up four goals in the final 10 minutes to lose 3-4.  Assisting the goals for VC were Roelfsema, Teagan Klevgaard and Kasowski.  Olsen would finish with 24 saves.

The Vipers fall to 8-7 on the season and will be tested again next weekend when they’ll take to the ice for four games.
