JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown men’s basketball team overcame a 17-point first-half deficit, but couldn’t hang on to a late lead as the Bulldogs defeated the Jimmies, 82-79.
Concordia shot lights out in the first half, hitting on 68% of their shots from the floor. Mason Walters had another dominant game, scoring 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes of the game. UJ cut the Bulldog lead to 47-43 going into the half, and eventually grabbed a three point advantage over Concordia with nine minutes to go. Concordia would respond, going on a 10-2 run to regain the lead for good.
Walters led all scorers in the game, finishing with 32 points and 14 rebounds for his 12th double-double in 16 games. Off the bench, Devon Schultz provided 11 points and five rebounds, as well as three blocks. Guards Marc Kjos and Will Cordes each ended the game with 10. UJ shot 47% from the field and went 16-20 at the free throw line. Concordia was slightly better from the field at 48%, and the Bulldogs went 14-18 at the line.
Jamestown drops its overall record to 16-5 on the year, moving to 6-5 in the GPAC. The Jimmies hit the road next weekend for a Friday/Saturday matchup against Doane and Hastings.
