JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team snapped a 13-game losing streak to No. 19 Concordia (Neb.) University Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bulldogs 65-51 at Harold Newman Arena.

Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) had 21 points and seven rebounds while Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN) had 15 points and four assists in the Jimmies’ first win against CUNE since a 77-74 in Seward, Neb., on November 8, 2013.

The Bulldogs led 13-8 after the first quarter as UJ shot just 4-of-15 and missed all five of its three-point attempts.

Quarter number two was a different story for Jamestown as they hit nine of 16 shot attempts and did not turn the ball over. Concordia struggled in the second, making just 33 percent of their shots and turning the ball over six times. Tower’s three-pointer with 56 seconds left before the half gave UJ an 11-point lead, and they took a nine-point edge into the break.

Concordia cut the lead to three at the 5:32 mark of the third, but DeMars knocked down a jumper to start an 8-0 run that put Jamestown back up by 11. DeMars scored again just before the end of the quarter to maintain a double-digit Jimmie lead.

The fourth quarter saw Jamestown keep the offensive pressure going, as a pair of Tower free throws made it an 18-point contest with 2:24 left. DeMars converted a three-point play for a 20-point Jimmie lead with 1:19 to play.

Macy Savela (JR/Mountain Iron, MN) returned to the rotation and scored nine points. Madelyn Schmidt (FR/Tappen, ND) had seven.

Jamestown, now 12-8 overall and 5-7 in the GPAC, are at Doane (Neb.) University next Friday.
