LA CROSSE, WIS. (VCSUAthletics.com) – Viterbo University shot 60 percent Friday night as the V-Hawk men’s basketball team held its home court against Valley City State University.

Plagued by slow starts last weekend, the Vikings started fast on Friday night jumping out to early 11-6 and 15-11 leads. The V-Hawks reeled off a 12-0 run midway through the first half though, taking the lead for good en route to an 84-70 victory.

Viterbo led 46-32 at halftime and the Vikings could get no closer than 12 points in the second half.

Valley City State drops to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Viterbo improves to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in the North Star Athletic Association.

The Vikings will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon with another road game at Waldorf University. The men tip at 5 p.m. with the women at 3 p.m.

On Friday night, the Viking men shot 42 percent overall (24-57), 33 percent on 3’s (12-36) and 77 percent at the line (10-13). The V-Hawks shot 60 percent overall (35-58), 33 percent on 3’s (4-12) and 48 percent on free throws (10-21).

Jalen Addison and Duoth Gach each scored 13 points for VCSU, while Joshua Kelly and Kevin Schramm each added nine points.

Jack Monis poured in 23 points on 11-for-12 shooting for the V-Hawks, while Brady Polk had 21 points.
