CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Central Cass boys and girls sweep Carrington in a varsity doubleheader in Carrington. The third ranked Squirrels on the girls side defeated the Cardinals 66-25 and the eighth ranked boys from Central Cass knocked off Carrington 58-46.
Girls Central Cass 66 Carrington 25
The Cardinals kept it close for a quarter, trailing 15-11 but the Squirrels outscored the hosts 51-14 in the final 3 quarters and cruised to 41 point win. Junior guard Decontee Smith had a game high 15 points, 6 steals and 5 assists to pace the the Squirrels. Jaylin Cotton added 14 points and Kailey McKinnon, Klaire Cotton, and Delaney Cotton all added 8 points to aid the win. The Cards were paced by Sophomore Madison Johnson with 7 points and Emma Rindy with 6 points, Central Cass improved to 9-1 and Carrington dropped to 7-4 overall and will travel to Thompson Saturday afternoon, varsity scheduled about 3pm weather permitting, KDAK will broadcast the game.
Boys Central Cass 58 Carrington 46
A big first quarter was the difference as the Squirrels opened the game on a 21-0 run and led 24-4 at the end of the opening frame. The Cards couldn’t overcome the big deficit but did cut the lead down to 10 in the final 2 minutes (54-44) and outscored the Squirrels 42-34 in the final 3 quarters. Jacob Deutsch led the Squirrels with a game high 18 points. Cole Holzer added 13 points and Carter Vrchota added12 points to aid the Central Cass win. The Cards were paced by Hudson Schmitz with 17 points and Jack Paulson and Grady Shipman added 9 points each. Central Cass improved to 8-0 and Carrington dropped to 4-5 and will be off until a week from Friday when they play at Velva.
