JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For 45 minutes the Blue Girls hockey team was shutout Thursday night at Wilson Arena against one of the top goalies in the state in Senior Jayli Wandler of Mandan. Suddenly the Jays offense exploded, pumping in three goals in the final five minutes of regulation to force overtime and then finished off the amazing comeback with a goal just :28 into the extra session to nail down the 4-3 victory.
Bernadette Belzer started the comeback with her sixth goal of the season and she ended the game with her seventh of the season on the power play early in overtime. The Freshman also added a pair of assists.
Sandwiched in between the two Belzer goals were tallys but Junior Alexis Kirkeby, on the power play, her 15th of the season, and the game tying power play goal by Freshman Ellie Krueger with only 2:50 remaining, her seventh of the season.
Jamestown Sophomore Goalie Olivia Sorlie kicked out 38 shots as Mandan outshot the Jays 41-34.
The Blue Jays improve to 5-4 overall and 4-4 in conference play, which currently has Jamestown seventh in the standings. Mandan slipped to 5-4 on the season, but still gained a point in the standings and moved up to the number three spot.
Next up for the Jays is a trip to Dickinson Saturday for a matinee against the Midgets.
