JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2022 Stutsman County Boys Basketball Tournament kicked off on Thursday at the Jamestown Civic Center. Here are your results from day one.
D6 #1 Medina-Pingree/Buchanan 52, D5 #4 Griggs-Midkota 44
The Titans pushed MPB to the limit on Thursday afternoon, tying the game up at 41 with five minutes to go. After Griggs-Midkota tied it, the Thunder went on a 9-0 to pull away and move into the winners bracket. Sophomore Rylen Wick was the leading scorer for the Thunder, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Moser also ended in double figures with 12 points. Jaxon Gronneberg was the leading scorer for the Titans with 12.
D5 #2 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 67, D6 #3 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 43
Napoleon/GS led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter before EKM out scored the Imperials 22-4 in the second quarter. Five players ended with 10+ points for the Rebels, including Jacob Nitschke who had a team-high 15 points. Trenton Erberle was the leading scorer for the game, finishing with 22 points on 10-16 shooting from the field. Both teams shot better than 50% in the game.
D5 #1 Ellendale 51, D6 #4 Kidder County 28
A 23-0 run by the Cardinals in the first half helped propel #8 Ellendale into the winners bracket. Scott Wagner was nearly perfect on the night, converting on 11 of 12 shots and scoring 25 points. Ellendale shot 50% from the field for the game and Kidder County’s Grant Pfaff led the Wolves with eight points.
D5 #3 Carrington 51, D6 #2 South Border 43
Hudson Schmitz, Lucas Hendrickson, and Josh Bickett all scored in double figures as the Cardinals pulled away from the Mustangs in the final game of the night. Carrington ended the night with 15 offensive rebounds and plus four in turnovers. Kaden Bader led South Border with 12.
