JAMESTOWN, N.D. (jimmiepride.com) – The 12th-ranked University of Jamestown men’s basketball team shot a season-high 60 percent from the field Sunday afternoon, defeating Presentation (S.D.) College 89-72 at Harold Newman Arena.
Jamestown connected on 15 of 26 shots in the first half, then went 18 of 24 in the second half. UJ made 14 of its 15 shots inside the three-point line over the final twenty minutes, and missed only three two-point attempts overall.
John Argue (SO/Houston, TX) posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Marc Kjos (JR/Lake City, MN) had 19 points and four assists to lead the Jimmies. Cole Woodford (SO/Redwood Falls, MN) added 13 and Brady Birch (SR/Melrose, MN) 10 as four of five starters finished in double figures.
Will Cordes (SO/Shakopee, MN) knocked down a three-pointer to finish off an 11-2 run to open the game, and UJ would go on to lead by as many as 14 points three different times in the first half. Travez Nyx scored at the 1:58 mark to bring the Saints within nine points, but Argue made a pair of free throws and Kjos drained a three to give Jamestown a 39-25 lead at the half.
The Jimmies led by 18 after Kjos made two free throws with 11:05 remaining, its largest lead of the game to that point. Denzel McDuffey’s three-point play capped off a 12-5 Saints run to get within 11. Argue and Kjos combined for seven straight points, and the lead was back up to 18.
McDuffey had 27 points to lead all scorers and finished with six steals. Dwight Felton was the other Saint in double figures, finishing with 10.
Jamestown finishes its non-conference schedule with a perfect 10-0 record and is now 14-2 overall. The Jimmies return to GPAC action on January 1 when they host Morningside (Iowa) University at 3:45 p.m.
