OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes won handily against Ellendale Friday night by a final score of 70-23. It was all Oakes from the start, forcing turnovers, making layups and being able to score in the half-court offense as well.
Oakes Junior Laikyn Roney scored 14 first quarter points. Ellendale didn’t have an answer for Oakes’ solid offense and couldn’t get anything going on offense themselves. The Tornadoes were able to rest their starters quite a bit in the second half as a result and everyone on their roster was able to get some playing time.
Roney finished with 24 points, junior Emma Muggli finished with 11, and senior Abby Cox finished with 9 points. Roney shot 11-18 from the field and 1-3 from deep. Muggli got seven of her 11 points from the free throw line going 7-10. Nine different Tornadoes scored in Oakes’ Friday victory.
Oakes improves to 3-2 for the regular season and are now 1-0 in district play. Ellendale falls to 0-2 in district play and 1-6 overall. The Tornadoes’ game versus Barnes County North, which was originally scheduled for Monday, has been moved to January 7th. Their next game will be on Tuesday at home against Napoleon G-S at 7:00 p.m.
