VALLEY CITY, N.D. (CCHD) – Christmas is the season of giving and one of the greatest gifts that can be received is one that offers comfort. The Good Samaritan Quilters at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City donated beautiful, warm quilts for adults and/or children who participate in either the Health Equity Program, Harm Reduction Program or WIC Program at City County Health District.

The Health Equity Program identifies and fills gaps related to equity and social determinants of health in Barnes County, including homelessness, poverty, unemployment, education, race, ethnicity and more.

The Harm Reduction Program provides testing for HIV and Hepatitis C, education about safer drug use and overdose prevention, and makes referrals to substance use treatment.

The WIC Program is a Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for women, infants, and children which provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

“Gifts like this from the community show real generosity and thoughtfulness,” states Alexis Elton, Health Equity Coordinator at City County Health District, “the quilts are tied with love, and I am thankful to the Good Samaritan Quilters for providing these to the Health Equity Program and other programs at City County Health District.”
