VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – First responders had to help a man yelling for help on Lake Ashtabula near the Crossing on December 14th at approximately 8:21 A.M.

Barnes County Sheriff’s Deputies along with a U.S. Army Corp of Engineer Ranger, Dazey Fire Department /First Responders and the Barnes County Ambulance Service responded to the call for service.

Upon arrival a Corp of Engineer Ranger and Sheriff’s Deputies saw a Barnes County man about 100 yards from shore sitting on the ice wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans, and no shoes. The Corp of Engineers Ranger and Sheriff’s Deputies with the aid of safety equipment retrieved the male off the ice. The man was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Valley City for non-life-threatening injuries he sustained from this incident.

The man told Sheriff’s Deputies and First responders on the scene he was sleep walking. A female friend, who lives with him told Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin that he had left his residence about 6 A.M. that morning.
