FREMONT, Neb.– Five players reached double-digits in scoring Saturday night as the 10th-ranked University of Jamestown men’s basketball team stayed unbeaten with a 78-64 win over Midland University.
Jamestown moves to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC and will play at Concordia (Neb.) University Tuesday.
Marc Kjos (JR/Lake City, MN) scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the first half as the Jimmies led 47-40 at the break. Kjos had the first eight UJ points and made his first five shots, including four three-pointers.
Midland led 30-29 with 8:58 in the first, then Will Cordes (SO/Shakopee, MN) put the Jimmies back in front with a three-pointer. The Warriors got as close as two with just over three minutes left, but a 7-0 UJ run stopped the momentum shift.
Jamestown built a 10-point lead at the 11:24 mark of the second, but Midland stormed back to make it a three-point game 75 seconds later. The Jimmies went on another run to go ahead by nine, only to have the Warriors get within a bucket at 64-62 with 5:50 to play.
Following a Midland turnover, Cole Woodford (SO/Redwood Falls, MN) drained a three-pointer and ignited a 9-0 run to put Jamestown up by 11 with 2:43 left. Midland would go scoreless for a span of 4:11 that proved to be the difference.
Mason Walters (JR/Jamestown, ND) had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Brady Birch (SR/Melrose, MN) came off the bench to also score 14 and pull down 10 boards. Woodford finished with 12 and Will Cordes 11.
