JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For the 25th time in 30 matches this season, the Jamestown women’s volleyball team picked up a straight-set victory as the #1 Jimmies bested #15 Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday night (25-19, 25-23, 25-18).
Jamestown started a little slower than usual, but in the middle of the first set, the Jimmies started to heat up with Anna Holen and Kalli Hegerle on the attack. Hegerle and Holen not only led the way for Jamestown during set one but for the entire match as the two seniors each had 10 kills while hitting .233. Holen registered a double-double for the Jimmies, picking up 16 digs while also recording seven total blocks.
Off the bench, Taylor Sabinash and Aleah Zieske had big nights, with Sabinash grabbing nine kills and Zieske ending the night with eight. Corina Huff didn’t get rolling until set three, but she was a major factor in the Jimmies winning the third set, tallying five of her seven kills in the third.
Defensively, UJ held Dakota Wesleyan to just a .092 attack percentage and 18 total errors. Ellie Holen helped anchor down the backline, picking up a match-high 23 digs while also getting a service ace. Jackie Meiklejohn and Megan Gaffaney split time on the court per usual, and the two setters each finished with 21 assists.
The Jimmies remain undefeated on the season with a perfect 30-0 overall record, moving on to the GPAC Championship on Saturday night. First serve from Harold Newman Arena is set for 7 pm and Jamestown will face the sixth-seeded Concordia Bulldogs.
