FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners were looking to avoid being swept by the West Fargo Packers for the third time this season. Back in West Fargo for the second time in seven days, the Hi-Liners were hoping that now in the EDC tournament, things turn out differently. West Fargo would sweep the Hi-Liners once again. The scores were 25-14, 25-14, and 25-22.

In the first set the Hi-Liners would strike first and take a 2-0 lead. However, the Packers would not show any sign of fear and would come back and take a lead in the set. Packers senior Nadia Chwialkowski would lead the charge for West Fargo. She was all over the court in this first set, but mostly made her presence known in the front court constantly getting kills for her team. Another Packers senior who helped lead a victorious first set was Mary Schenll. She has such velocity on her kills that when kept in bounds, was very difficult for the Hi-Liners to return. The Packers take the first set 25-14.

The Second set saw the Packers take an early lead. Once again Nadia Chwialkowski would be a thorn in the Valley City side. The senior was constantly doing everything right in this game for the Packers. Also in this set West Fargo Junior Chloe Pfau would start to make her name known in the front court as well. Between Pfau and Nadia, the Hi-Liners had to try and figure out how to stop the two for the Packers. In the end it was too much for Valley City to over come, and the Packers take the second set by the same score as the first set, 25-14.

In the third set the Hi-Liners struck first, and fast. Valley City quickly going up 6-0 before the Packers would call a timeout. After the timeout, the home team battled and chipped away at the Hi-Liner lead, and before the blink of an eye we had a 7-7 tie game. This third set was all about momentum. After storming back and tying the game, the Packers would them jump out to a 12-7 lead. At this time, the Hi-Liners would call a timeout. Valley City, trying to quiet Nadia Chwialkowski, were putting Addy Kvilvang, and Brooke Eggermont on the right side of the front court. This strategy worked for the most part. West Fargo would catch on and move their star senior over to the right side of the front court, to get her away from the double team. However, even with the new strategy, Chwialkowski would get her kills, and the Packers would get the win in this third set 25-22. This by far was the strongest set the Hi-Liners had played against the Packers in their three match ups. Peyton Pederson, Dylann Diegel, and Addy Kvilvang all battled hard and almost extended the match to a 4th set due to their presence on the front court.

The EDC East Region Class A tournament now shifts to Grand Forks Red River, and will continue on Friday. With the loss, the Hi-Liners will be in the 4 o’clock game and take on Fargo North High School. You can hear the call of the game on KOVC.
