VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Jon Skalicky, Valley City Police Officer Jason Runge, Bryan Bridgeford of West Fargo, N.D. and Roy Del Ozo of Lawton, O.K. were recognized for their efforts in helping arrest a DUI suspect at the Oriska, N.D. Rest Area on the morning of July 26th of 2021.

Bridgeford called law enforcement to report a female (Amanda Leavy) on suspicion of DUI in her vehicle at the rest area. Once Trooper Skalicky arrived to question the woman she attempted to drive away in reverse with Skalicky partially in the vehicle. She then fought with the trooper and tried to disarm him, during the struggle two citizens and Police Officer Runge helped Skalicky get the woman into custody.

N.D. Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind talked about what happened on that morning to Trooper Skalicky.

N.D. Highway Patrol Superintendent Col. Brandon Solberg said thanks to the efforts of Brian Bridgeford, Roy Del Ozo and Valley City Police Officer Jason Runge the suspect was arrested.

Trooper Skalicky is based in Valley City, he thanked Officer Jason Runge, Brian Bridgeford and Roy Del Ozo for helping him get the suspect into handcuffs.

Skalicky suffered a fractured foot during this incident. He recovered and is  back on duty.

The suspect, 35-year-old Amanda Leavy of Jamestown, N.D. is facing five felony counts including Aggravated Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. She remains in the Barnes County jail on a $25,000 bond. Her next court appearance is set for March 3rd of 2022.

Skalicky received the N.D. Highway Patrol Legion of Honor Medal at a ceremony in the N.D. Department of Transportation District office in Valley City on Thursday, November 4th. Officer Jason Runge, Bryan Bridgeford and Roy Del Ozo (Not in the photo, unable to attend the ceremony) received the North Dakota Highway Patrol Colonels Award of Excellence for their actions on July 26th during the ceremony.
