JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The third defensive shutout of the season, coupled with a potent offense on Friday night led Jamestown to a 35-0 win over Grand Forks Red River in the 11A postseason opener.
It took Jamestown a few drives to get going on offense, but once the Blue Jays started rolling, they didn’t stop. Junior running back Aden Braun had a huge game on the ground for Jamestown, carrying the ball 15 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Braun scored twice in the first half, including as time expired in the second quarter on a jet sweep to put the Blue Jays ahead 21-0 going into the break.
Senior wide receivers Adam Kallenbach and Preston Kroeber each had huge nights for Jamestown, as Kallenbach led the way with six receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown. Kallenbach also recorded an interception on defense, his seventh of the season. Kroeber reached the end zone twice in the second half Friday night, ending the game with five receptions for 98 yards and two scores. In his return to play, junior quarterback Payton Hochhalter went 15-23 through the air for 254 yards and three total touchdowns.
The Blue Jay defense was stout from beginning to end, led by Colton Mewes and Jackson Walters who wreaked havoc on the Roughriders all night long. Jamestown’s defense got its third shutout of the season and is now allowing less than 10 points per game on average this year.
Jamestown moves on to the semifinals for the 11A playoffs which will take place next Friday night, November 5th at Rollie Greeno Field. The Blue Jays will take on the top team from the East in Fargo North, who defeated Wahpeton 41-12 in their quarterfinal matchup. The other semifinal matchup will feature #1 St. Mary’s against #5 Dickinson.
